The Poetry Vanguard  NOTE! Now renamed

 "Vanguard Examinations"

Xpress Train Ltd. prepares candidates for external assessments set by this nationally renowned body.  The Poetry Vanguard was founded in 1980 and offers examinations across the UK to children and adults of all ages “to encourage the love of poetry and the spoken word. Candidates with a disability or handicap are encouraged to participate.”

With the issue of the 2007 Syllabus, the board has changed its name to Vanguard Examinations to reflect the widening of its examination subjects.  In then list below, the RED type shows subjects newly added in 2007.

The following subjects are available for examination:

These examinations offer an excellent introductory experience for those less used to speech and drama examinations because the approach is particularly supportive and examiners encourage candidates to offer their best work in a less formal atmosphere than that of some other boards.

In Swindon, the examination session is held annually and generally early in December, though of late the Swindon centre has been held in July.  Entries must be made at least one month in advance of the examination date.  This information will be posted on our NEWS page when available.
