The London Academy of Music & Dramatic Art [LAMDA]

The Academy is internationally renowned for the teaching and assessing of speech and drama for performance and since September 2002 it has secured validation for its examinations from the Quality & Curriculum Authority. This means that the examinations have equivalence at various levels in the National Qualifications Framework. You can, for example, gain a Grade 4 LAMDA pass and it is an Intermediate (Level 2) achievement just like a GCSE Graded A – C. A Bronze Medal [Grade 6] in Public Speaking is a Level 3 (Advanced NVQ) achievement. Diplomas are Level 4 awards.

Note the recent announcement that Grades 6,7 & 8 will be awarded UCAS points so strengthening applications to colleges and universities in 2008! In fact, a pass with Distinction at Grade VIII - Gold Medal - will receive an award of 65 UCAS points. To help the comparison with other awards, a Grade A at A/S Level attracts 60 points and a Grade D at A-Level is also awarded 60 points.

Examinations are held in many countries around the world and Grade achievements are highly respected. The following subjects are available for examination:

	Reading for Performance
	Practical English – English as an Additional Language
	Acting*
	Improvisation*
	Mime*

Group Work Examinations:

	Interactive Spoken English
	Choral Speaking, Group Recital
	Group Acting
	Group Improvisation
	Group Mime

Note: * = also available for duologue/pair performances

LAMDA also offers a range of Diploma, Licentiate, Associate and Fellowship awards as well as a number of special Communication awards for the achievement of certain combinations of subjects at specified levels.
